ROTHESAY - Monthly weather outlook
The town of Rothesay is the main town on the Isle of Bute. It can be reached by ferry from Wemyss Bay which offers an onward rail link to Glasgow.
The Isle Of Bute Discovery Centre dominates the shoreline along with the beautiful esplanade gardens. The centre is a unique 1920s circular structure of cast iron and glass and incorporates a cinema, theatre and many interactive displays as well as showcasing the best of Bute.
At the centre of the town is Rothesay Castle, a ruined castle which dates back to the 13th century, and which is unique in Scotland for its circular plan. The Castle was captured by the Vikings in 1230 and later became an island residence of the Scottish Stewart kings. Visitors can explore the dungeons and the thick outer walls and grand hall, which are now fully restored.
