There’s no shortage of cliché-ridden ideas about England: From double-decker buses, thatched cottages, country houses, splendid gardens, village pubs, cream teas, eccentric aristocrats and fish-and-chip shops. There are though a surprising amount of great tourist attractions in in every corner of England

Here are some of the best things to see and do in England, so lets start with the capital city of London:

London
London, England’s capital, set on the River Thames, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city. London is the Queens residence at Buckingham Palace, and the whole of the city of London is easy to access using the London Underground, the first underground railway system in the world.
The top rated things to see and do in London includes the Shard, the British Museum, London Planatarium, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey & Churchill War Rooms. Open Top Bus Tours are a good way to see the sights and London is world famous for its shows, food and world class shopping.

South Coast of England
Has long been a summer playground for English Tourists with elegant resorts along the entire length of the South Coast. Eastbourne, Brighton, Bournemouth & Torquay to name but a few. In land there are plenty things to see and do, Castles such as Leeds Castle, Arundel Castle and Hever Castle all have their place in English history dating back to the Tudor times. Gardens galore like the great gardens at Dixter and Sissinghurst Gardens are the most popular. There are steam trains with the most famous being the Bluebell Railway and vineyards such as Chapeldown. If you like the great Outdoors there are some amazing walking opportunities in Devon & Cornwall & Dartmoor. Pretty towns and villages are scattered across the region making the South Coast area of England an ideal place to stay

English Midlands & the Cotswolds
Heading north we reach a region known as the Cotswolds, which has for centuries been a popular area to visit with its honeysuckled buildings, lush meadows and an are rich in history and tradition. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford, and nearby there is Blenheim Palace & gardens, probably one of England’s most grand palaces. To the west near the Welsh Borders there is the Black Country and further north we reach the Potteries and then the Peak District with a host of things to see and do. The spa town of Buxton, Chatsworth House & Bakewell are all great places to browse. It is home of the Dambusters and there are some lovely easily graded walks around the Dams where they trained in WW2.

The North of England
Covers Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Cumbria. A large expanse of country with national parks like the Yorkshire Dales. The lake District is probably the most scenic area in England, then there is Northumberland and the east coast of Yorkshire with its sweeping coastline, high cliffs and sandy beaches. Northumberland is the land of mighty castle like Bamburgh, whilst Yorkshire has a range of Victorian sea side resorts – Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Inland York with its 900 year old Minster, is possibly Englands best walled city dating back to the Roman days. As we move across to the East there are plenty things to see and do in the major cities of Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool of Beatles fame. England’s oldest and still popular is Blackpool. As we travel further north past the lake District we reach the Scottish Border and Hadrians Wall.
