The Cotswolds

Tourist Information

Tourist Information & Hotels in The Cotswolds: Gloucestershire and Wiltshire

The Cotswolds are well-known for gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), sleepy villages and for being so ‘typically English’. There are famous cities such as Bath, well-known beautiful towns like Cheltenham and hundreds of delightful villages such as Burford and Castle Combe. Above all, the local honey-coloured limestone, used for everything from the stone floors in the houses to the tiles on the roof, has ensured that the area has a magical uniformity of architecture. The larger market towns and villages of the Cotswolds are famous for their shops, such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Cirencester, Chipping Norton and Tetbury.

Gardens: There are over 30 Gardens open to the public, here are 3 of the most well known:Westonbirt Arboretum, Abbey House Gardens & Cerney House Gardens

Attractions : There are many small historical attractions in the Cotswolds. The 3 most popular ones worth visiting are Blenheim Palace, The Roman Baths, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Sudeley Castle & Gardens dating back over 1000 years, a 12,000 acre estate with ornate gardens. Sudeley Castle is the burial place of Katherine Parr - the last of Henry VII's wives!

Walking : To find the best walks, contact the local Tourist Information Centres located across the Cotwolds, and obtain one of their handy maps with clear instructions, noting places of interest. Cotswolds Walking Idea 1 Cotswolds Walking Idea 2
