BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 30 Oct 2009 | Caroline Waddilove said the following about Caledonian Hotel: Just returned from a weekend break in Oban. Booked the special weekend offer off 2nights DBB with the 3rd night BB free. Overall the hotel has provided a comfortable and pleasant stay.
The set menu provided for dinner gave a fair selection of starters, mains and deserts. Service however was slow. Breakfast was resonably well organised with the cold items self-service. The cooked breakfast was provided to order. Could have been better quality and hotter than it came out.
Our room was bigger than we expected for the standard double we'd booked with a good sized bathroom and view overlooking the bay. Being at the front of the hotel you did get traffic noise and noise from the late-night drinkers waiting for taxis on the Fri & Sat nights. The bedroom window not double glazed.
The location of the hotel on the main road running along the bay and onlya few mins walk from the train station did make up for the negatives.
There is a very comfy seating area on the ground floor with the cafe/bar which provided a good resting point out of the rain.
Overall a good stay and I would consider staying again.

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 7 Oct 2009 | Gordon Croll said the following about Caledonian Hotel: we had a smashing time at the Caledonian. The room was adequate; the staff were brilliant and helpful, while the food was also very good. We will be returning. The only slight snag was that we were evacuated twice for fire alarms, but better safe that sorry. |

THE HOTEL WAS IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION AND THE STAFF WERE FANTASTIC. WE HAD DINNER ON THE 1ST NIGHT AND THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD. MY ONLY GRIPE IS THEY SAY THEY ARE A 4 STAR HOTEL BUT I WOULD SAY THE BEDROOMS ARE ONLY 3 STAR. OVERALL THOUGH FANTASTIC AND WE WOULD LOVE TO RETURN SOME TIME. |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 17 Apr 2009 | Allan Burns said the following about Caledonian Hotel: Excellent, as a family of four, children aged 6 & 8, we were interested in how the accomodation would work out. Truly excellent, very spacious adult room with double bed, seperate children's room with bunk bed and seperate bathroom. For anyone in a similar situation it was room 225, well worth the money, true value.
Would highly recommend and will use again without hesitation. |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 17 Jun 2008 | A guest said the following about Caledonian Hotel: The Oban Caledonian has always been one of my favourite hotels. Helpful and friendly staff, gorgeous room at the front of the hotel, overlooking the harbour, and even free wi-fi.The only slight disappointment was the meal itself. The main course tasted nice but looked a bit school canteen-y and the waitress seemed desperate to serve us then get on with setting the room up for breakfast. However, the rest of the meal was lovely and the restaurant is still a great place.I’m so glad the Oban Caledonian has maintained its standards and I look forward to coming back for a longer stay next time.

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 4 May 2008 | A guest said the following about Caledonian Hotel: My husband and I stayed here as the second leg of our touring honeymoon and found it to be rather mixed. Parking, as others have mentioned, is a bit awkward but once we had unloaded bags to the foyer and parked in the train station we ditched the car for the 2 days we were here, just topping up the meter. Check-in was quick and friendly, the girl on reception helping us plan a trip to Mull. The room was lovely with an enormous sleigh bed, the staff, knowing we were honeymooning had left us a congratulations card which we thought was a lovely touch. The view (paid for) wasn't amazing as you had to lean round to see the best of the bay but was OK. The bathroom suite wasn't as grand as the room itself and could use some modernising although it all worked and was in one piece. The downside while we were here was the restaurant. On our first night there were only 2 waitresses serving, neither spoke English. We couldn't blame them, the hotel should have staffed their restaurant better. Food was fine when it arrived but the wine I requested twice was out of stock prompting the bar manager to bring a complementary glass of something else with an apology. The following night was Valentines and the restaurant was almost empty - I recommend scouting other eateries if staying here unless things pick up pronto. Breakfast also had some odd combinations if you chose continental and the dishwasher hadn't done a very good job on the crockery! Some of the attractions were closed while we were here but the walk to the monument on the hill is worth doing and a ferry ride to Mull is a must for the views. Hotel is fine if you eat elsewhere but we paid too much for the 2 nights.

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 25 Feb 2008 | A guest said the following about Caledonian Hotel: The hotel has a great outlook over the bay. We were mabye fortunate and got lucky with the position of the room but it was only a standard room we booked and it was very spacious and nicely furnished. We didn't have an evening meal here, only breakfast so i can't really comment on the food but everything was absolutely excellent and i wouldn't hesitate in going back! 10/10

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 7 Jan 2008 | A guest said the following about Caledonian Hotel: The location was fantastic - right in the middle of town. We only stayed here one night, but if I had to do it over again i would use Oban as a home base to take some side trips. The staff here was very friendly and helpful - the lobby and restaurant and bar were all beautiful - seems like it would be a great place to hold an event. Our room, was clean, We were in a room with 2 singles, and I sometimes think those rooms are usually not the best the hotels have to offer, so other rooms may be better.

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Nov 2007 | A guest said the following about Caledonian Hotel: Rooms were comfortable and warm, some of the windows had secondary glazing. The beds were very comfortable but huge. Being in the centre of everything one would have expected quite a lot of noise but it was quiet and 5 nights of beautiful sleep were had.Reception staff were very courteous and helpful as were the bar staff and a very comfortable bar it is.Breakfast was a little chaotic if one left it until the last minute but if you got down around eight am then it was perfect. We only had one meal in the hotel restaurant as we like to get out and about for our grub and we found it to be reasonable (especially when you take into consideration the 25% off vouchers they let you have)Although the Hotel has no parking facilities you park in the Station car park just 50 yards away for three pound a day.Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
