Generally, we had an enjoyable stay. There were a couple of points which we made to the hotel staff. The bed cover and carpet in the room were both in need of cleaning. The bedside lamps were not bright enough for reading. Finally, we missed the Fine Dining menu which had been a feature of the hotel previously and something we had very much enjoyed.

We had a wonderful night as guests in the Boat Hotel. Room wonderful, bed a delight, food and service excellent. The only tiny complaint if you can call it that was the size of the dining room chairs, extremely small and uncomfortable and I'm of an average size...some of the men looked decidedly squeezed on these small chairs, they were more like stools. Having said that I would recommend this wonderful hotel and will gladly return.

The hotel was being refurbished at the reception and a little in disarray, but I'm sure it will look lovely when it's finished. Our room was very comfortable and pretty, with great views across the Strathspey Railway and beyond. The menu doesn't change at all, and there were no daily specials, so I think we might have started to struggle to choose something we fancied if we'd been there more than the two nights. The second night, both my husband and I had the fillet of beef which was absolutely delicious. The breakfasts were great too, so a lot to recommend the hotel. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. The location is ideal for touring around the highlands, and it's worth visiting the ospreys at Loch Garten!

Although we were told we were being upgraded to the best available room I doubt we were. We have stayed at this hotel before and had better rooms. This time it was very small with one easy chair facing the bottom of the bed that you had to edge past. The bathroom was lovely though and it did not spoil our stay. A kingsize bed would also be a welcome addition.

Overall stay pretty good but disappointed that we hadnt known the fine dining restauarnt was shut. Bistro food was good but menu was fairly limited. Only had 2 specials which were same both nights and 1 night 1 special was off. Full scottish breakfast v disappoinitng. First day asked for no black pudding or haggsi but instaed of getting more of the rest in its place we juts got a small portion. Toast was really bread that had hardly seen a grill. First day the suasgae was one of the prepacked very thin ones - not what I would expect for a Scottish breakfast. Paid extra for a superior room - didnt have any radio or alarm or music option and whilst bathrooms were very modern and clean I was exepceting something a bit bigger and more luxurious. Service was good.

We did not like having our meals in the bar area especially when the other two restaraunts were free. Other guests felt the same with some complaining. We liked the character of the hotel but felt it was badly needing redecoration. Our bedroom was fine but small things like wallpaper starting to peel and badly soiled carpets let the hotel down a bit.

We were actaully quite disappointed with the hotel, having stayed there previously. The fine dining option was not available, as the restaurant was closed. We ate in the bistro, and while the food was good quality (fish and chips were good) the chef was heavy handed on the salt, and the smell of frying drifted through to the bistro. Rooms were comfortable, if a tad shabby.

Overall the package represented good value for money. The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable with the upgrade applied as stated. The hotel itself is quite comfortable, if perhaps a little worn in communal areas. The quality of the food on the DBB package was generally very good, however we dined in both of the restaurants during our stay and found the service to be rather inconsistent. The breakfast options are not as good as would be found in similar class hotels, and my scrambled eggs were spectacularly badly cooked! Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return to this hotel.

Superb food and great sevice in the evening (but NOT for breakfast). Unfortunately the hotel spoiled it at the end by trying to charge us for one evening's meals -£62-(it was an all-in deal) and wine (we had a voucher). The woman at the desk handled it very badly - she even made me go back to the room to get the brochure to show her. Guests - check your bill at the Boat Hotel!

Stayed 2 nights from the 19/06/09 and enjoyed our stay.Staff very friendly and efficient but overworked sometimes at peak times in the bistro and restuarant.Recieved our upgraded room and very nice it was.Ate in the bistro 1 night and the food was very good,thought £4.55 for a small glass of average rose wine was a wee bit cheeky.Shower in the room was poor as they have a problem with water pressure but easily fixed with fitting of power showers I would think.Had a large roll top bath if you had the time. Would recommend visiting the hotel and surrounding area as it is a beautiful part of the country with lots to do and see.

Disappointed Fine Dining Restaurant closed Sundays and Monday nights - 27 April was our 10th Wedding Anniversary and my birthday and this was the main reason we booked the break/hotel. Also we were not given a reserved/ "one of the best tables" in the Bistro Restaurant on the Monday night (despite having booked for 7.30 pm) as indicated in the literature re "Luxury Breaks" although we were given complimentary drinks. We did not seem to have a "reserved" table for breakfast either. However, the food was very good/excellent. The room was fine but the shower did not work properly which we discovered was known to the hotel staff when we mentioned it on checking out - something to do with the water pressure in the higher floor rooms. Whilst the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful we did not feel that this was a "luxury break" as described in your brochure and would not have booked it for our special occasion if we had known in advance that the Fine Dining Restaurant was closed on the Monday night.

Hotel lovely. Food was first class!! Service at dinner was good but service at breakfast was excellent. The bedroom was clean but the ensuite could be cleaner. Classic britain had not reserved our room at hotel (they had sent me confirmation)but the hotel had rooms free and were very accomodating.

Easy to find, in a little village just off the main road north and plenty of parking. My room was large with everything you might need including an armchair which was a nice touch. Decoration a little chintzy but fresh and clean. Room had a fantastic view over the Cairngorms and the steam railway. Being a single female traveller I like a hotel with room service so I dont have to eat alone in a restaurant but they dont offer this option at the Boat. I ate in the bistro which was relaxed and the staff very attentive. The big highlight of this hotel was the food. Everything homemade with fresh, tasty ingredients - excellent. Staff were all very friendly and hotel was warm and comfortable so would stay again and would recommend it for business or leisure travellers.

Only 6 miles from Aviemore, this is an ideal hotel to stay if you wish to tour the lovely Spey Valley.A relaxing location with golf and fishing available nearby. The Steam Railway with it's nostalgic wee station is on the doorstep,literally! With the surrounding countryside, a photographers dream! The hospitality was flawless at every level. The food was first class from the smoked salmon breakfast to the choices in the Capercaille restaurant. .(Gressingham duck delicious!) A relaxing soak in the roll top bath with Gilbert& Soames toiletries...total relaxation! Without exception, each member of staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Next time we're in the area we will certainly stay at the Boat.

We stayed at The Boat Hotel for our honeymoon and it was the perfect relaxing and tranquil retreat. We arrived at the hotel around 7pm and were greeted by the lovely receptionist. Check in was sift and easy. Our room surpassed our expectations it was divine! We had booked the suite and it was a lovely room with separate living area then a step up and double doors leading to the bedroom. The bathroom was beautiful with a free standing bath and separate cubicle shower. One little point was that the shower pressure was not great, however still made for a comfortable experience. Towels were plentiful likewise the toiletries. The lounge area had a TV, DVD and CD player. A selection of Chill Out CD's were also available - nice touch! There was a separate flat screen TV in the bedroom. We dined in the bistro restaurant each night as the food was superb! Great menu and very generous portions. The staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly, nothing seems like too much trouble. Each time we passed reception the ladies always had a friendly chat with us! I would highly recommend The Boat Hotel for any couple looking for a romantic get -away. You would be hard pushed to find a more welcoming hotel.

We arrived a bit later than expected, just before 9pm, and the welcome was perfect! An open fire blazed in the hall, and Diane on reception welcomed us with a beaming smile! She said that as we were a bit late she'd taken the liberty of reserving us a table if we wanted it - we did!! The room was perfect - beautifully decorated, clean & modern bathroom (shower & bath) and a lovely comfy bed!! Plus the added extras of CD player, couple comfy seats and a cracking view of the hills! The hotel itself was good - for drinks you could either sit in the sofa's in the entrance hall (very cosy with the fire!) or if you fancy being a bit more sociable, there's a small pub attached to the hotel. We ate both breakfasts and dinners at the hotel, and each meal was spot on. Huge fry ups in the morning (there were other options but we were greedy!), well cooked simple food in the evening! I believe a new restaurant is opening soon, however we ate in the Bistro which is a warm, simple room. All the staff we met were genuinely friendly and couldn't do enough to help with any queries we had. All in all - it fitted what we were looking for and added to a top weekend!

We stayed at the Boat Hotel on the 25th Jan 2008 and on our arrival we were warmly greeted by Diane at reception who was incredibly helpful and professional. We were very impressed that our old dog was treated as warmly as we were. As it was in the evening when we arrived, we decided to have a drink in the attached, relaxed and freindly bar before our meal through in the hotel bistro. We enjoyed ourselves and were warmly welcomed by the locals. Our bistro meal was delicious, and the waiter, very attentive. Upon finishing our meal, we returned to the bar to complete our evening. The room was very comfortable with everything you could need and also a few thoughful touches. It was a very good size with a lovely modern bathroom with a roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle. The bed was comfy and offered a peaceful nights' sleep. In the morning we enjoyed a hearty, cooked Scottish breakfast which set us up for the day. We would very much like to have stayed another night, but needed to return home to the Isle of Skye. All in all, we would highly reccommend the Boat Hotel for a genuine Highland Welcome and it's warm hospitality, as well as very comfortable surroundings.
