"Have you ever wondered why the Lovat Hotel Restaurant in Perth is called 1747?"
Simon Fraser was born 1667 and was otherwise known as “the most devious man in Scotland”. He had an unhealthy obsession in gaining what he believed rightfully his - the title of Lord Lovat. In 1697, he kidnapped and forced Lady Amelia to marry him in a desperate attempt to gain the title. Amelia’s outraged family forced Simon to flee the country. After years of travelling, demonstrating government support and fighting through legal proceedings, Simon eventually won a full pardon for his past crimes and received the title of Lord Lovat. However, he turned to support the Rising in 1745 and, after being found guilty as charged, was beheaded on Tower Hill on April 9th 1747, the last person to be so in Britain, hence the name - 1747!
