BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 26 Feb 2010 | R Forbes said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: We had a great stay at the Buchanan Arms Hotel, Drymen. Staff, facilities service & food 1st class. The only down side was the state of the woodwork in the bedroom doors they could do with a lick of paint. In response, Buchanan Arms Hotel said the following: Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you thought the facilities, service, food and staff were first class. I note your comment regarding the woodwork on the bedroom doors. The hotel has recently fitted new fire doors, for the safety of our guests, and a small number of the doors still require to be painted. This will be completed in the very near future, and will not cause any inconvenience to our guests.

Food on the 1st night was excellent but on the 2nd there was a function in another room so our menu was very limited and no where near as good, we felt short changed. Staff very friendly especially Chris in the gym. All in all a good weekend |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 5 / 10 STAYED _ 30 Jan 2010 | Gillian Gordon said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: The stay was fine but i've had better at this hotel. Service at dinner on the Sat night was in disarray, the table was booked for 8.30 and when we turned up the 8pm bookings had yet to be seated. They also had run out of a few items on the menu. The Sunday night was much improved and more like the Buchana Arms that I know. |

BEDROOMS _ 9 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 29 Jan 2010 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Bedrooms very well appointed although new TV couldn't be fixed. Dining room needed better management. An outside birthday party meant we couldn't get out 8pm slot until 8.45pm. They should have been put in an additional room. Staff worked their socks off but no apparent managing. A fair number of screaming children which got on our nerves. Someone else walked out. Probably there due to cheap deals. I've known this hotel for a long time Despite the problems staff very pleasant indeed, hotel nice and warm, food standard good. Beef steaks are a great measure and they were tender. Will go back but they need to manage that dining room better. |

BEDROOMS _ 2 / 10 SERVICE _ 3 / 10 FOOD _ 3 / 10 STAYED _ 28 Dec 2009 | valerie atkinson said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: While we enjoyed our holiday the hotel was disappointing. We stayed at Scotlands hotel at the same time last year and it was far better in terms of the room and food quality. I've rated the bedroom a 2 however this was mainly based on the bathroom which was very poor. |

BEDROOMS _ 4 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 4 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Dec 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: We did not feel that the Hotel lived upto the standard portrayed on the website. The meal on the first day was excellent but on the 2nd and 3rd days was a poor reflection of the menu. "Locally produced" veg seemed to be frozen and tasteless. We had to change room due to it smeling of cigarette smoke. The rooms for the rest of our party were not of a sufficient quality - one had no blind/curtain on the clear bathroom window and the other was freezing with an insufficient "blower" heater. Bedroom decor tired and dirty in places. Welcome on arrival less than "warm".
On positive side, leisure facilities good and lounge/bar area very nice. |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Dec 2009 | George McKeand said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing stay at the hotel. Staff were courteous and helpful at all times. |

BEDROOMS _ 3 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Dec 2009 | Margaret Thomson said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: We had to move bedrooms on the second night after trouble with the electrics in our original room (44) which started acting up from our first night. Whilst the staff were very apologetic and helpful we were offered no recompense for the considerable inconvenience this caused. We also were led to believe there was a Ceilidh on the Monday noght but in fact there was just one man singing to backing tracks and they had to move him from the Function Suite, as it was freezing, to the lounge - a bit disappointing. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 20 Dec 2009 | John Taylor said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Excellent service and food. Staff were very helpful and provided everything we needed, including food for toddlers. Lounge and dining room have been refurbished and look great, swimming pool was excellent. Bedrooms also now being updated. |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Nov 2009 | Mark Dillon said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: The bedroom we stayed in (no.22)was spotlessly clean and was beautifully decorated in a country style/pine fashion which I thought was wonderful! The kingsize bed was MASSIVE and there was plenty of wardrobe space and drawers and even a shelf for our suitcase to be stored out of the way. The bathroom was sparkling clean and the shower was great and very easy to operate.
The staff in every area of the hotel were very professional and friendly and did everything they could to make our stay a pleasure. The hotel itself was beautifully decorated and stylish, I understand that the hotel is undergoing some refurbishment and I can only say that when it's finished it will be fabulous! The lounge area was very homely and welcoming with the two roaring log fires and comfortable chairs and sofas we felt able to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The conservatory was classy and modern. The leisure facilities were great, there was a large pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room and towels were provided for guests.
The food I thought was delicious, I ate everything they put in front of me! I would definately recommend the smoked haddock and poached egg for breakfast! Everything we tried from the resteraunt menu for dinner was great and the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly.
Overall, the hotel was wonderful, it had a friendly, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere! We will definately be returning!!!
Thankyou for a wonderful weekend!

BEDROOMS _ 2 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 6 Nov 2009 | Noreen Reidy said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: The welcome was wonderful and it's good to see the hotel being brought up to date. The lounge was lovely and the traditional bar was warm and cosy. The food was very nice with pleasant, efficient service. The only thing that really let us down was the quality of the bedrooms - we had tears in our sheet, no soap in the bathroom, table lamps that didn't match. The decor was very tired in the bedrooms and bathrooms but I'm sure these will be brought uo to scratch in line with the ground floor of the hotel. |

BEDROOMS _ 1 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 13 Oct 2009 | William Gaffney said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: RECEPTION AREA, MAIN LOUNGE, GYM & POOL COMPLETELY DECEIVED THE STATE OF THE HOTEL.
THE SHOW ROOM ON THE INTERNET WAS JUST THAT.THE ROOM WE HAD & OTHERS OFFERED WERE TO SAY THE LEAST DISGUSTING.THE BATHROOM UNACCEPTABLE. In response, Buchanan Arms Hotel said the following:
Thank you for your comments Mr Gaffney, as I explained to you on Saturday evening whilst you were here, the hotel was full and we were unable to move you to any of our refurbished rooms. The rest of our bedroom stock will be refurbished in the coming months along with a full refit of our restaurant. Although some of our bedrooms are tired and in need of refurbishment, I disagree with your description of them as "Disgusting". I am sure you will find our New Executive Floor Rooms more to your taste.
I am glad you and your party enjoyed our wonderful hospitality and I look forward in welcoming you back to sample yet more of our fabulous malt whiskies ( poured in front of you ).

This is our 4th visit to this hotel and we all had a lovely time. We booked for the dinner dance night on the Saturday and really enjoyed it although we were dissapointed that the entertainment finished at eleven o'clock we had expected it to go onto at least 12 especially as the guy on was excellent and had everyone wanting more.
Our room was good as they gave us the rooms we usually stay in so no complaints there and the staff were lovely. I did notice a change in the menu this time but again I found it to be the same excellent quality as before although missed my trio of ice cream dessert I always have, maybe next time they will have it on again as i'll certainly be back |

BEDROOMS _ 2 / 10 SERVICE _ 2 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 19 Jul 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Overall the hotel can best be described as faulty towers. The bed was in need of replacement and dipped in the middle. The room was extremely cold and there was no heating. Housekeeping did not clean room until 4pm in the day. In addition every floor board in the place squeaked. It sounded like spending the night in Dracula's Castle. To top it off the beauty therapist was not available for the duration of our stay. The hotels only saving grace was the excellent food, which was on par with that of a five star hotel.Well done to the chef. In response, Buchanan Arms Hotel said the following: Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our hotel, I am extremely disappointed to read some of your comments. I am sorry that you found your bed uncomfortable and the room to be cold. Did you let our receptionist know about this at the time? We still had some rooms available and I am sure they would have been happy to relocate you to another room. I agree that it's not acceptable to have your room cleaned at 4pm in the afternoon and I will pass your comments to our head house keeper. As for the squeaky floorboards, we do occasionally get comments about this and although some say it's part of the charm of staying in a hotel over 200 years old, this is something which will be rectified when the bedrooms and corridors are refurbished.
With regards to our beauty therapist not being available, she works on a freelance basis and is only in the hotel when she has pre-booked appointments. I am sorry this was an additional disappointment and would suggest pre-booking an appointment would have avoided this situation.
On a more positive note we are regularly commended on the quality of food we serve here at the Buchanan Arms and it's heartening to learn that we are consistent in our standards here.
Once again, please accept my apologies for our shortcomings, I do hope you will give us another chance in the future to show you we can do better. |

BEDROOMS _ 6 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 12 Jul 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: The room we had was adequate but decor a little tired.
The leisure centre was very good, clean and well serviced.
The staff were very friendly. The Dinner suffered by the menu description which wasn't explicit in terms of included content and need for side dishes for an average appetite, particularly the steaks which were poorly received.
The Breakfat however was spot on.
I would try the Winnock if I stayed in Drymen again |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Jun 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Good basic accommodation but lacking in attention to detail. Walls in both dining room and basement bedroom needed washed. evidence of some type of liquid splashes. Coat of paint needed to cover damp patch on bedroom ceiling.Empty picture hook and screw holes in bedroom, some items had obviously been removed.
Lounge dark but comfortable, large light shades on ceiling lights needed cleaned of dead moths and flies. We were offered tea in the lounge after dinner but it was forgotten. The conservatory was bright and airy but often in use for weddings. The bar was small and both it and lounge were used by wedding parties so difficult to find somewhere to sit and read or have a drink. The breakfast buffet was good but served in a room littered with high chairs and other bits and pieces of furniture. Dinner was good but staff were under pressure on the first night.
This could be a good hotel like Loch Fyne or Oban Bay but the hotel guests seemed to be overlooked in favour of the wedding guests and it all needed some TLC. In response, Buchanan Arms Hotel said the following: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. Naturally we are dismayed that you didn't have a more enjoyable stay and that you found some areas of the hotel to be below an acceptable standard. Rest assured that all the issues you raised will be addressed and should you return to the Buchanan Arms in the future, you experience a better level of service and improved standards. |

BEDROOMS _ 9 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 13 May 2009 | Les Davidson said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: E-mailed hotel in advance for a renovated room and was allocated the best room.(The one in the publicity shots).Hotel is immaculately clean. Food well presented. Sparkling white linen on bed and tables. Attentive, young, smart and efficient staff. Only critisism is choice of main course meals for my wife as a vegetarian was bland and uninteresting. Friendly and efficient duty manager woking under restricted trading conditions. BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 3 May 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful. They worked very hard and gave us excellent service even with a wedding reception being on (the 3rd one in a row!).
The food and leisure facilities were fantastic. The rooms were big - even with three of us in each one, we didn't feel we lacked space. The only downside was that the bathrooms in the bedrooms could do with being done-up. There were six of us there and we all had a great time. We'd definately go back. In response, Buchanan Arms Hotel said the following: Manay thanks for such a glowing review. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 5 / 10 STAYED _ 1 Apr 2009 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Just arrived home from three nights in the Buchanan Arms Drymen. My husband and I thought it was more like Fawlty Towers than a Classic Hotel. The Restaurant service was slow and a bit disjointed. The room was not up to the standard we expected as there were a few things not working. On our last day our room was not serviced by 3.30p.m. and when we asked to have it done we got all kind of excuses, such as they had 11 rooms to do from scratch but would do it for us. Returning back to the room it had not been done properly and we let the Reception know. As it had been my birthday on the Monday our son had arranged by phoning from America to have Champagne in the room but the next day the staff didn't even take it away. So we had to take it to Reception. All these things werereported to the staff and hopefully something will be done about it.

The newly refurshed lounge area has been very tastefully done. The food and beverage manager is working very hard and is a delighfull young lady. I would comment that there were too few staff for what was a busy few nights but they coped well. |

We could not fault anything at the hotel, the staff, food, cleanliness, service, leisure facilities were excellent and definetly value for money. I have recommended this to family and friends and will defintely be booking in again at least once this year. The fact that it is a child friendly hotel just put the icing on the cake. Once again, many, many thanks. |

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Jun 2008 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: Pleased with reception on arrival very pleasant
Rather shocked at the physical state of staircase, very rickety
Bedroom and Bathroom dated with a mismatch of furniture with missing handles etc, but beds comfortable.
Bathroom had cobweb from date of arrival and was still there on departure.
Housekeeping staff need to be more vigilant within their role. They should ask themselves on leaving a room, would they be happy with the standard of cleaning, and if not revist the room.
Although Hotel is in a state of room refurbishment this should be a matter of urgency to complete, to stop doors rattling.
Resturant prooved excellant with a varied menu, bar area quiet and very helpfull staff, breakfast times more than adequate with again a varied choice.
Leisure facilities prooved a good choicec at the end of the day.
would I return again, definately |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 30 Mar 2008 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: I booked this hotel for a romantic break to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were very pleased with all aspects of our stay, especially the beautiful room[37] We have stayed at Gleneagles and Skibo Castle and this room was up there with them. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was excellent with plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was efficiently run,we never had more than a 10 minute wait for food even when it was very busy. The leisure facilities were great and Maxine the masseuse was excellent. We will be back and I will be recommending this hotel |

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 22 Feb 2008 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: A nicely situated hotel. Comfortably appointed. Excellent complimentary leisure club facilities.
Breakfast was excellent, the only slight disappointment was the evening meal in the restaurant. My partner and I had lamb and duck - both of which slightly overcooked. However, the good wine and location made up for it!
Little else to do in Drymen, good location for touring the area though. |

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 7 Jan 2008 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: We love Scotland and we have had so many great experiences in other places over the past 2 years that I think it is reason that this time,
it was quite an ordinary stay.
The hotel from the outside is great. It is huge and the spa/gym facilities are super and modern. Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel is quite dated: peeling paint in breakfast room; our room was big but the heating in the bathroom didn't work (and it was snowy and cold outside this January); also, they have a very lovely lounge, but most of the seats seem to have lost all support.

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 7 Nov 2007 | A guest said the following about Buchanan Arms Hotel: We have just spent a couple of days at the Buchanan Arms. I can't fault it in any way...it seems to have been taken over and the new owners are striving to improve the hotel in all areas. to my mind there is not alot more they could do...the service is excellent, rooms great and the food and service in the restaurant is of an outstanding standard. The raspberry mousse is to die for!.
It is a warm and welcoming hotel...to sit in the lounge on the gorgeously shabby tartan sofas(that is a compliment!) with a brandy and a pile of magazines is heaven.
An ideal place to get away from it all but have lots to do and see on your doorstep.
We are planning to go next year and take visitors from abroad and also with a group of friends...why look for anything else when you know you will have everything you could want at The Buchanan Arms. |
