BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 10 Mar 2010 | Vera Tuchewicz said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Unfortunately at the time of our stay, there was a large conference taking place in the hotel. This may be the reason why there was inadequate staff in the dining room.
Romm 214 was very comfortable and spacious. However, the furniture was covered in dust.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will probably return for a short break in the near future. |

BEDROOMS _ 3 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 10 Mar 2010 | Marion Docherty said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: The food was exceptional but I don,t accept that 5he 'best room available,on Wed 10 March was room 155 where the curtain rail was broken.
The teacups were not replaced with clean on the 11th. The waiters in the restaurant were excellent and not intrusive at all. The livingwell is 'tired'. We enjoyed our stay however and will return. The decor is beautiful throughout. |

We thought the staff were all very helpful and attentive. First nights' meal and service was excellent Second night not as good, there was another formal function being served, staff stretched.
Overall thoughts, our stay was only two nights and we would have loved to stay longer. Would recommend to friends. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 3 Mar 2010 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Staff in restuarent need to be more attentive. Did not notice that for 25 minutes we were sitting without drinks even though we ordered them. If I was in a restuarent not linked to hotel I may have walked. The frustrating thing was at that time there was a number of waiting staff floating about not even busy not asking customers if okay need any help.
Apart from above service was good. Did not expect this from a high profile hotel/ restaurant though. |

BEDROOMS _ 3 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 2 / 10 STAYED _ 1 Mar 2010 | mark morrow said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: have stayed here before the renovations were finished and thoroughly enjoyed it, however this time had to say we were a bit disappointed. The food in the restaurant was typical a la carte portions which was fine but everything we ate was all a bit bland which i didnt expect from a restaurant fronted by nick nairn! The food was definetly not up to standard and was much better last time we stayed. The bedroom we were allocated was very small and i dont believe that this was the best available room as the hotel didnt appear to be that busy, however we were willing to overlook this as we were on a reduced rate anyway, however the pillow top mattress called sweet dreams was very uncomfortable,as were the pillows, which resulted in us not having a great sleep both nights that we were there. turned out to be a bit of adisappointment compared to last time we stayed and we would hesitate to stay again! |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 23 Feb 2010 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The size of the room and the fixtures and fittings were on a par with the Premier Inn I stayed in recently! We waited 55 minutes for our main course the first night, which is totally unacceptable. The food is excellent but the portions are very small. Public areas are beautifully decorated but were not very warm. This being during a 48 hour fall of snow when we were unable to get out! Is there a Library in the Hotel? |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 23 Feb 2010 | Charles ALLARDICE said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Hotel, service and ambience excellent. Warm welcome on arrival. Our twin room was attractive, stylish , clean and adequate
Delightful waitresses and friendly attention to our requests. Excellent choice of food courses perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
Our only complaint made to the restaurant staff and referred to the manager was the intrusive piped music which was mainly discordant improvised jazz and this permeated every area of the public rooms. As the weather closed us in, there was nowhere to sit quietly with a book. Friends had asked us to report on our experience in order that they should book a break but this so-called music would definitely put them and others off. It appears that the ''noise'' is organised by a central office and on a loop that is persistently played.
The spa facilities are good.
We would recommend the Hydro for a comfortable 2 day break as it affords a first class experience (except for the ghastly piped 'entertainment!') |

BEDROOMS _ 4 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 22 Feb 2010 | Anne Kirkpatrick said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Enjoyed stay at Dunblane. would have preferred the leisure complex to be inside the hotel rather than have to go outside - particularly when the weather was bad. Corridors bit dowdy where we were staying and room could have done with a bit updating |

It provided an excellent seeting for a romantic weekend away and the new Kailyard restaurant was very good. However, the general toilets were not what you would expect from a 4star hotel and the cleaner failed to provide clean towels after they were obviously dirty. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 15 Feb 2010 | C Whiteman said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: enjoyed our stay, hotel was lovely, staff friendly, food was good.I dont think you should have to ask for tea and coffee at breakfast, surely not to much to ask for the person taking you to your table to take your order. Another bug bare is why oh why do you have to stand in a queue to make your own toast while your breakfast you have had to queue for gets cold at the table? House keeping should have a little look under the beds not sure when ours was last hoovered under. the rest of the room was spotless.ROOM 412. |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 14 Feb 2010 | Catherine Tanguc said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: We did enjoy our stay but were not convinced why this hotel received 4 star status, we had stayed at the Kings Manor in Edinburgh which was a 3 star and found the rooms more comfortable, better choice and portions for evening meal, however much preferred breakfast at dunblane as more choice on offer. Hotel was let down by the same menu available each night, glad only stayed 2 nights or there would have been nothing else for me to eat. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 14 Feb 2010 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Hi
the hotel was nice the spa was not. Treatments were not value for money and some of the therapists were not experienced. We boooked 2 facials at £44 each. on the first attempt the staff gave both of us a facial lasting 40 mins and one of the facials the staff member was reading the manual. The actual spa facillity is not fit for purpose and the rooms are in a link corridor to the changing rooms for the pool. children can be heard screeming etc whilst you are trying to relax. WE both spent £130 on spa treatments over the stay and this was the main reason for going to the hotel. These were booked in advance with a 50% deposit.
On booking in at 11.30 am staff took our bags. We then seen if the room was ready at 2.30pm. On no contact did the staff (one a manager) tell us to book for dinner. When trying to book about 5.30ish the only table available was at 9.45pm. We had to eat our dinner in the bar at coffee tables. WE did book for the resturant for the next night and the area we were in had no music as the electrics had not been linked up. Bar service was a 10 and the food tasted really good and was prob a 10 also.
we also booked a twin room and got a double.

Have dropped them a point on service only due to breakfast on day one when despite 3 requests to different staff we were only served our tea after finishing our food- they seemed very under pressure and burnt toast from the toaster didn't help causing a panic about the smoke alaram going off.Didn't spoil our stay and I'm sure it was a one off event! |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 5 Feb 2010 | JULIE REID said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: When we first went to check-in,the receptionist didn't have any details of our booking at all. I had to show her my email confirmation, then she phoned someone, and it was all fine.I was a bit worried though,as I had booked this weekend as a nice break for my husband as he'd lost his Dad just 2 weeks ago,so I really wanted everything to be perfect.A beautiful hotel, the room was stunning. We didn't have a view though -the window was completely leaded, only opened a little bit at the bottom, and all you could see from those 3 inches was a rooftop. We paid extra for an upgraded room - maybe we would've had to pay extra again for a view? The bathroom was lovely, witha fantastic shower.Big TV too (could've done withot SkySports though!.Would definitely return, but would not take the evening meal option again. The prices were extortionate. The breakfast was lovely - there was a massive choice, just about everything you could think of.
All in all a gorgeous hotel, but if we go back, we'll just do bed & breakfast.

BEDROOMS _ 3 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 5 Feb 2010 | KAREN THOMSON said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: we enjoyed our break at the Hydro, the staff were great and the food good, unfortunately we felt the room was a letdown, we paid extra for a superior room and our room we would have said was more like a single with a double bed, we could not move in the room at the same time, also the leisure facilities being seperate from the hotel was not a good idea, we had stayed in the Hydro many years ago when the facilites were all under the one room and felt this was better suited to our needs. |

The food in the Nick Nairn restauarant was enjoyable but the portions were not very big as such I was still hungry after my starter and main course.
The service was first class! One of our friends had undergone major surgery and was ill over xmas so this was our xmas night out at the end of jan. The waitress had asked about the purpose of our stay and on finding out she retruned with Xmas decorations, crackers, party hats and mince pies - Nice touch! |

BEDROOMS _ 6 / 10 SERVICE _ 3 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 30 Jan 2010 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: hotel was visually very impressive and we enjoyed our stay (especially the homemade cookies on arrival!), however the following issues did put a dampener on our stay:
I had booked 2 x twin rooms which was stated on my confirmation. When I called the hotel before our stay I was told we had 1 x double and 1 twin but it would be changed. When we arrived, we had 2 doubles. This was very dissapointing. The hotel did change the beds quickly.
The wing we stayed in (next to conference area) looked rundown in the corridors, scuffed doors etc and it felt like we'd been given the worst part of the hotel because we were on a DBB deal.
The toilet in one of the rooms didn't work and couldn't be fixed until the morning before check out. Again, they did offer to move our room but we had already unpacked. It was disappointing this wasn't avoided before we checked in as surely the cleaners would have known the toilet didn't flush.
Dinner was lovely but didn't clearly state that the DBB rate excluded drinks. We therefore paid an extra £25 for a bottle of wine when we had eaten much less food than our £23 pp alllocation. Had this been clear we would have ordered starters.
In the restaurant, we ordered a bottle of Sauvingon Blanc. There were several types on the menu but we made it clear which one we wanted. The waitress brought us a Chardonnay so we sent it back and again pointed out the correct bottle. She brought us a Sauvingon Blanc but when we saw the bill they had given us the £25 bottle not the £21 bottle. This was 2 careless mistakes.
The pool area and water was absolutely freezing.

As this was our party celebrating a belated Christmas together due to one of the party being ill during the Christmas period, the staff could not have done more to make our stay a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, even Christmas crackers and warm mincemeat pies served with our dinner!! The reason the food is not less than 3 is on the Friday dinner I could not fault it, but unfortunately Saturday I had the rump of lamb which was served raw, not pink as the waitress informed me but it soon solved. As a Chef/Lecturer in hospitality I know how difficult it is to pleaes all of the people all of the time. Finally I would like to thank you for the use of the Baby Grand piano in the lounge, I enjoyed entertaining the guests on Saturday evening.
Thank you very much I will be back! |

BEDROOMS _ 6 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 29 Jan 2010 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Lovely hotel but I would not consider it to be a family hotel for families with very young children, under 5. Family rooms are very tight if you have pull out bed and cot. Also, with the exception of the pool, there are no children's activities. And the service at meal times is rather slow - probably due to numbers, so occupiying 2 very young children was a bit trying. For a couple's relaxing break away - it would be fab. but for a family break I would suggest Crief Hydro, which is really fabulous, but not available on Classic Britain! |

BEDROOMS _ 0 / 10 SERVICE _ 0 / 10 FOOD _ 0 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Jan 2010 | Paula Richardson said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: We had a lovely overnight stay in newly refurbished rooms. The decor was stunning throughout the hotel, although the bedrooms were very small. The service was excellent in the restaurant. Our only problem was that as we had booked a DBB package, the menu wasn't explained to us. When we checked out, dinner had been charged separately and had to be removed. That wasn't a problem but it left extra costs for supplements on items in the menu that we had no idea about. The meal was lovely but if people had a budget then they would get quite a shock with the extras. Just a small point but in general, a highly recommended hotel and we had a great deal. Thank you. In response, Dunblane Hydro Hotel said the following: Thank you for posting a review on the Classic Britain website and may I say how pleased I was to receive your comments. I regret the fact that a supplement was charged on some items on our recently introduced Winter menu and that this possibility was not mentioned to you when you made your booking. Your comments are mostly favourable so cannot understand why we scored 0/10 for everything on the review! I do hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again in the future.

I was concerned the bedrooms were going to be small from reading previous reviews. Room size was fine, cleaned daily. No hairdryer or iron & ironing board, but as we had 3 rooms we borrowed each others. The food was delicious, very disappointed the menu was the same each night. Service great until our last night & breakfast. As there were 6 of us we had booked dinner on our first night for 3 nights. On third night they did not have our booking but did make room for us. We were then forgotten about. Wine and dinner ordered and butter asked for. About 45 minutes and a coulple of reminders about butter and wine later, dinner arrived, then butter then wine. Breakfast we seemed to be invisible. Breakfast almost finished coffee still not served, had to ask again. There was supposed to be entertainment in the form of a disco. No disco. |

They then moved from there to the dance floor where some elderly, proper dancers had to manoever round up to 10 cavorting children until around 9pm, while their parents remained in another bar leaving them unsupervised. Not being a dancer it didn't directly affect me but I felt sorry for the many elderly guests who had to wait until late before taking to the dance floor because of a few selfish parents. |

Room was above delivery entrance and heater vents - very noisy. Bathroom smelt of dampness.
On the other hand staff were very friendly and eager to help.
Restaurant was cold - but think this was due to the lack of people staying at the hotel.
Food was average and £21.50 per head didn't cover the cost of dinner - menu expensive.

A slight problem when we arrived the room allocated to us had a broken shower screen. On informing staff we were immediately given another room. Hazel the receptionist was great and nothing was too much bother for her and she should be complemented on her Customer Care. The staff in the restaurant were polite and courtious nothing was too much trouble and the food was fantastic. |

Dinner menu has poor choice in main courses. Thank goodness for the 'specials', which saved the day! The noise in the adjoining bedrooms and in the corridors outside our room was totally unacceptable as it went on until 04:00. We complained at about 02:30 but it made little difference. There must have been a big party of drunken teenagers, judging by their behaviour, and to put us in the same wing was very bad planning. Unfortunately, this completely ruined our weekend. |

BEDROOMS _ 10 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Nov 2009 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Staff at the Hydro all wear badges with the number "10" on them. When asked why, we were told that this is what they aim to deliver(out of 10 obviously) in customer satisfaction.
Despite this seeming like a potential gimmick, all staff delivered exactly that. Very refreshing for British Hospitality Industry in general, when customer service rarely seems like the number one priority. I am glad to say that our stay at Dunblane Hydro did not fall short of our and the staff's expectations. I would certainly return to this beautifully decorated, extremely well run and serviced hotel. To top it all, the food was faultless too.

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 5 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Nov 2009 | Roddy McIntosh said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Our welcome on arrival was less than satisfactory. We noted on the Classic Britain confirmation of booking page that if a superior room was available there would be an automatic complimentary upgrade. When we asked if there was any opportunity to upgrade the receptionist (Robert) replied there were rooms available but that he was not aware of the complimentary upgrade offer. The way he reacted to our enquiry gave us the impression he thought we were making it up. He made us feel liars. Although the rest of the stay was excellent our experience on arrival stayed with us and tainted the rest of our weekend.
Why was the hotel not aware of this offer? In response, Dunblane Hydro Hotel said the following: Reply from Classic Britain: -
Dear Mr McIntosh
Thank you for taking the time to enter your review. Regarding your complimentary upgrade offer, we do not state anywhere on our site or on any confirmations that there is an 'automatic complimentary upgrade'. Dunblane Hydro does not take part in the 'Free room upgrade' offer which is why the receptionist knew nothing about it.
I have checked your confirmation and there is nothing about a complimentary upgrade on it either. We are rather perplexed as to why you would think the hotel has this offer.
Kind regards
Raymond McMillan

Difficult to get out of bath due to location of toilet. One computer chair to sit on and due to this we had to sit in public area, which was cold, to read newspapers. Unfortunately we were kept awake until 4.30am with people on party night slamming doors going in & out to smoke ( bar open until 5am! ) we only stayed one of the two nights we booked which was very dissapointing. |

BEDROOMS _ 4 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 22 Nov 2009 | Evelyn Falconer said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: I booked this hotel for my daughter's birthday and was quite upset when she told me that her 1 year old son found a pair of dirty ladies pants under a chair in the bedroom. She advised a member of staff when she checked out that this had occurred and her reply was 'oh that wasn't very nice. Not quite the response I would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Had the room actually been cleaned?
The hotel also changed the room when my daughter arrived as there were only three in the party instead of four, and although the room was nicely decorated there was not a lot of space and the cot only had a sheet on it (not exactly child friendly) and not an upgraded room as per your website.
I have no complaints re your site as I felt that booking this break was very easy but I would think twice about booking this hotel again. |

We were able to check in at 2pm, which was fantastic. Dinner was very good, the service was first rate and friendly. The hotel was busy with different events taking place that evening, however this only created a buzz around the place. Our room was comfortable, and although we didnt have a nice view from our window this wasnt a problem. Our sleep was disturbed during the night by noisy plumbing, coming from the heating radiator. If we had been staying for numerous nights this would have to have been lookes at. The breakfast next day was very good with cereal / cooked options available. Check out was quick and friendly. |

Food in restaurant was exquisite...definitely one of the best meals we have ever had (we are a young couple). Visit to the health suite/pool following day proved worthwhile also - superb facilites. Only slight issues overall were that staff in restaurant took some time to serve you at table & that entertainment at night was not enough (electric piano playing in background automatically on Saturday night). Our room was worse! Apart from the carpet requiring a vacum, there was (what looked like) chewing gum on it; there was (what looked like) a foot print on the bedroom mirror; the shower curtain was brown for about 12 inches up from its base. We were quickly moved to another room after we complained. The second room was smaller but, apart from the carpet requiring a vacum, it was cleaner. At no time in our 2 day stay did we see the hall carpet or the door brasses clean. The glass in the large revolving back door was also filthy. The main part of the hotel, ie the lounge, dining room and main hall, appeared to be clean. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. The food was good though the restricted menu choices meant I ate the same thing on the second night. |

Bedroom was in the wing to the back of the hotel looking onto the car park. Really nice room and even although we were beside the car park - very little noise.
Used the pool, steam room etc. Changing rooms could do with a make over - pretty tatty at present. Shame you have to go outside the hotel to get to the leisure facilities.
We ate in the hotel and the food was very good. Very busy on the Wednesday night and service suffered - had to send soup back because it was not hot, had to ask for cutlery and they forgot our drinks order.
Bar prices were pretty high but probably not OTT for this level of hotel: beer (pint) about £4 and a glass of wine £6.50.
Enjoyed the stay and would go back. Price for this stay was very good - thank you:-)

There was a large choice at breakfast, everything you would expect. Dinner had to be booked early (I'd recommend booking the night before for the following night unless you like eating at 8.30pm or afterwards) The restaurant has been taken over by Nick Nairns chefs and although the food could not be faulted, at times it was a little too different for our liking. You are met by very pleasant reception staff, with a warm welcome. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and friendly throughout my stay. Although the town is very small, there are a few attractions near by worth a visit eg Blair Drummond Safari Park. The food in the restaurant wasn't very varied during my 3 night stay, the service in the restaurant, although pleasant, is extremeley slow. I had to wait 35 minutes before I received a drink, and had to ask 2-3 times for coffee in the mornings. The food in the restaurant looked good, but was quite bland and suprisingly for a Nick Nairn restaurant, very salty. I would however recommend the Hotel for a romantic break, possibly dining at the local restaurant, but not a family break as there was no entretainment at all for the children. I think if there was a games room, with a TV, Playstation, snooker table, board games etc, where children could interact with each other, then this would be a great addition to the Hotel. With something like this I would definitely consider returning with my children, but not without. There were several families with bored children in the hotel in the evenings during my visit. |

Hotel, Restaurant and bedrooms looking good following a refurbishment programme.
Prudential also having a big meeting and Conference Centre also smart.
Breakfasts good however Haggis unfortunately not available.
Used to be a big favourite with the guests.
Service at Dinner could have been disappointing if you were looking for reasonably quick service although the first evening Monday was good.
It was great to be there.

The staff were very nice and the little pool was quiet early in the morning, the perfect start to the day. The beds were very comfy and the food was fine although the menu did not vary enough in the three days. Having said that our teenagers ate very well and loved the buffet breakfasts. |

After driving up the impressive drive to the hotel we were given a warm welcome from Hazel at reception. The hotel having just been refurbed was stunning inside. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food and the atmosphere was great. All the staff were very attentive.
If I had one negative thing to say about the hotel it would have to be the pool which was clearly not done up at the same time as the hotel and was altogether a bit shabby.
I would certainly recommend a stay at this hotel to anyone. |

Would suggest that the menu maybe changed more often. Had the same menu for 2 nights and on the third night the main chicken dish removed and replaced with a lamb dish. If we were staying for a week or longer we would have been looking for more variety. Apart from that could not fault the food, it was delicious and the staff had excellent customer service, couldn't do more for you.Very clean and very relaxing. Looking forward to a return stay in the not too distant future. |

Reception desk very courteous/polite.
Service a bit slow in restaurant at night and especially in the morning.
Evening meals very disappointing, especially for the money. Food bland, tasteless and this is supposed to be first class chefs, I don't think so.
Very limited menu hardly changed from one night to the next and don't go in hungry expecting a hearty meal to fill you up, no chance order chips and any other side you can but again all very pricey for what you get. |

The bedroom was spacious and elegant, and the shower is probably the best I have encountered in all of our many hotel stays around britain. Dinner was fine, a fab starter and amazing dessert which was slightly let down by the rather ordinary main course. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet which was topped up regularly. My only complaint was that they were fully booked for the following evening and couldn't fit us in for another night. |

Staff I came across were all very nice.
Food was lovely, toast machine in the morning was not up to the tast of serving all the customers, toast should be made in kitchen and offered to the table.
New decor nice, although we had to pay an extra 20pound a head to garantee a newly decorated room, this was a bit cheeky...
Overall, a lovely stay and I would return. |

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 21 Aug 2009 | Mary McLellan said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: On arrival I was told that one of our rooms had been changed, we booked 2 rooms. My mum's room was fine but my room, the minute you opened the door it smelled like someone had been smoking, the room was unfinished, no wardrobe doors, a hole in the dressing table where plug points should have been. Contacted reception who said the hotel was full but would speak to Manager. I met the Manager on the stairs and explained the problem, he came to our room and said there was no way we could stay in this room. Although the hotel was full, he found us two rooms in the main part of the hotel which were refurbished. The Manager did deal with the situation very efficiently. We were much happier in the main part of the hotel as it was dust free. The only problem with our room was that we could hear a rather loud fan unit on the roof outside the window even with the window closed, but I felt we could put up with this for the 2 nights but it was hard going and very noisy. I believe when the hotel is having a lot of teething problems with the refurbishment. The sitting areas and restaurant are very nice. We had a problem with the same menu for the 2 nights as my niece is vegetarian and they only had one choice which was fine for the first night but had to ask for her to have something different for the second night. The restaurant manager was very nice and spoke to the chef and there was no problem in making another pasta dish. Breakfast was chaotic, don't mind the buffet situation, but having to get your own tea, coffee and toast was a nightmare. All in all we enjoyed our break and will hopefully return some day when the refurbishment is completed. |

BEDROOMS _ 1 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 7 / 10 STAYED _ 15 Aug 2009 | Patricia John said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: If you book a double room make sure it is not room 306 or similar. This room is far too small to be a double, it is a single they have squeezed a double bed into. No fun having to maneouvre around furniture to get into bed. At the time of our stay there was still refurbishment going on & our room was close to it so was quite dusty. The requested iron & ironing board were absolutely filthy & deposited thick dust on our clothes. There was a verbal apology from the duty manager but the requested towel to replace the one we had to use on the ironing board did not arrive, neither did our paper in the morning. The staff were pleasant, food was good but based on our room, hotel not up to 4 star standard. Having seen the standard double room we felt very hard done by & the receptionist at checkout tried to tell us that the furniture had a design fault - the door wouldn't open as it was too close to the bed, it was fine in the proper sized room! There was no offer of a reduction in price to compensate for the poor room. I am currently awaiting a requested written reply from the management. If you are looking for a hotel in the area, try the Macdonalds Forest Hills or the Airth Castle for 4 star service & rooms. Alternatively a Premier Inn has better rooms & beds than room 306 & is cheaper. |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 6 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 1 Aug 2009 | LORRAINE PAUL said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: We arrived at the hotel at 4.15 as check-in was at 4pm.We were informed our rooms weren't ready. We were advised to book for dinner while we waited for our rooms. The only available time for dinner was 9pm, which for my mother of 80 was a tad late. The manager however was blaze about it and said that meant we could spend more time in the bar. three normal glasses of wine and a diet coke cost £17, so no we wouldn't be spending much time in the bar prior to dinner. We eventually got into our rooms at 5.10. The toilet in my room didn't flush properly, there was no remote control for the tv, no phone, no booklet detailing services provided by hotel and surrounding area. Beds were comfortable and room was ok although sliding wardrobe doors would have been better as one door couldn't be opened properly due to space. the manager granted stood us a round of sandwiches and a cup of tea to tide us over till dinner which was a bit plus. Dinner menu was good, but our waiter failed to put in our main course order, which meant we were the last table to be served our main course at 10.20 pm. We finished dinner at 11.10pm. Food however was excellent and breakfast was a delight. My friend said she wouldn't be back because of all the hassle. Me, I don't know, if there are more offers on, possibly. I know the hotel has undergone a refurbishment, and the main bar and dining room are nice, but could be better with more colour to brighten the place up a bit. I prefered the bedroom decor before they were refurbished. The fitness centre could do with a good tidy up too, tils missing in steam room and mould round the pool. I'll give the hotel 2 for bar prices, which were absolutely extortionate! |

BEDROOMS _ 7 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 1 Aug 2009 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Overall, the stay was very enjoyable. However, the service in the restaurant for evening meals was not great. We were shown to our seats, not given any menus, eventually when we did get a menu, we had to share. Nobody asked for a drinks order and we had to ask for a bread roll and then ask for butter.
The following evening (Sunday) we waited around one hour for our main course! |

BEDROOMS _ 3 / 10 SERVICE _ 8 / 10 FOOD _ 9 / 10 STAYED _ 1 Aug 2009 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: We realised the wing(room 107) was about to be renovated but the corridor had a very musty smell and a tray with dirty dishes was outside a room door for the whole of our stay. I would not recommend staying in the hotel during a wedding as they seemed to take over the whole frony lobby and bar. What had been renovated was very impressive. |

BEDROOMS _ 5 / 10 SERVICE _ 4 / 10 FOOD _ 5 / 10 STAYED _ 31 Jul 2009 | David Brown said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Its been more than 12 years since I last stayed at the Dunblane Hydro and I have to say that I was more than a little dissapointed at how standards have slipped. Whilst appreciating that the hotel is under new management and in the latter stages of refurbishment, I found the food dissapointing, service mediocre and the leisure facilities tired and dated, ( missing tiles and bare plasterboard in the Gents changing room, dirty pool area etc). I paid for a superior room upgrade, but again, this was also a dissapointment and the room ( albeit in a part of the Hotel still to be refurbished) was tired and dated and no better than what you would expect of a standard room. The Hotel, whilst by no means the worst I've stayed in, no longer appears to merit its 4 star status and is trading on its past reputation. Reception staff were however were friendly and enthusiastic. Sadly though, that wont be enough to convince me to return. |

BEDROOMS _ 6 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 6 / 10 STAYED _ 25 Jul 2009 | Thomas Cameron said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: From the front as you approach this Hotel looks fantastic. At the back, where we were housed, it was not so. The room was large and well decorated, but damp and smelly. The bathroom smelt mouldy and the finishing was poor. We were told the block was due for refurbishment imminently! It needed it. We got a budget price and they sure put us in a budget room.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Some improvements to be made in the restaurant. But that is likely due to younger age of staff. We asked one waitress to check on something in the kitchen for us and she went off to the kitchen, came back and went out to the other side of the room, never returned to us....?
Only gripe about food was small things. Why provide a porridge station with cream and sweet syrup and fruit if you are going to pre-salt the porridge! We love porridge, salted as well, but this stuff was awful. Our wee laddie (19 months) could not have it as it was too salty. And the grumpy chef routine by the head of the breakfast shift was a little too much (I have worked in many hotels, Hiltons (and the previous Stakis) as well, all chefs can be grumpy but this was just a public act that at times left less wise guests confused.
Overall. If you are going there pay the money and get the nice rooms in the main bulding. Make sure you dont get shuffed in the back, it is smelly! |

The bathroom had already been upgraded and although the bedrooms were a little tired looking they were clean and had tv and tea and coffe making facility, iron and ironing board etc. The main part of the hotel looked lovely and the food was very good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Only down side was the price of the drinks but I guess you have to expect that when staying at this type of hotel.

Given that your advert enthused about the new renovations we were very much looking forward to it. However, the accommodation provided to us was in the yet to be renovated wing. Damp smelling, dirty coridors and rooms. wee spoke to the duty manger on our departure who said that we should have been informed that because of the cheaper rate we were paying it was always intended for us to be in this sub standard accommodation. This was NOT apparent from your advert - and would make us think twicew about using your website again. THe staff at Dunblane were excellent. The food however was disappointing. The dinner menu weas the same both nights and when we queried this we were informed that it stayed the same for thge season. Hardly what we would expect from such a prestigious establishment |

This had damp patches on the ceiling and the wallpaper was peeling off the wall!
We were then moved to another smaller room with a double bed but the mattress was too small because we could see the slats on the base.
We were then offered a front facing upgraded room at an additional cost of £60. We took this as the room was lovely, only to find it was side facing. We complained to the Guest Comments dept and had the £60 taken off our bill.
We didnt think there was a good selection on the menu and found the food rather disappointing. |

Altough the room was newly decorated we would have rated this room as a SINGLE ONLY. The small window had a frosted design and we therefor could not see out, and was clausrophobic. Only one chair at the desk which was difficult to pass, with the double bed taking up most of the room. Only one bedside table which was not convenient, (the only one was towards the sloping ceiling). The room put a dampener on an otherwise pleasent stay !. |

It was better than our break at Easter but this is because the restaurant was back in working order. Staff were helpful and it was very relaxing. Only complaint that I had was that the menu stayed the same everynight apart from the Special. A bit more variety would have been better although the quality of the food was excellent. Otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable break and we will definitely go back. |

BEDROOMS _ 4 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 27 Jun 2009 | William Gill said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: The room was the only poor aspect of an otherwise enjoyable visit. While the website does not shy away from mentioning the ongoing refurbishment it is not made clear that you will be allocated the un-refurbished rooms which at best could be considered bedraggled with peeling paint and scuffed wallpaper. The other aspect is that the ongoing refurbishment is therefore going on around you and the noise on the Sunday and Monday that we visited made relaxation difficult. On the plus side the staff were wonderfully attentive and the food fantastic. I would consider re-visiting once the refurbishment is complete and there is a better chance of being positioned in a room which better fit my expectations of a 4 star hotel. |

To stay in this room would have required you to keep the curtains closed. Was then moved to an upper floor which was a small room and in my opinion was not a superior room which I had booked. |

Table d'ote menu was not changed for our two nights, ans a fellow guest said that it had not varied in 4 days. NOT a good thing. It should not be bayond the capabilities of a good restaurant manager to rotate 3 or 4 menus, on a daily basis, as the menu basic price was £22.75 for 3 courses. I would NOT go back again. |

Staff were friendly but we had a 45 minute wait for our starter on the 1st night and on the 2nd night felt we were being rushed out when we got the bill while starting our dessert.
Food was very good the 1st night but think it must have been a different chef the next night. |

The newly refurbished parts of the hotel, reception, dining room and bar (and assume bedrooms in the main building)are excellent. We were located in the Stirling wing which was of an ok standard for the deal obtained, but it is just about to be refurbished so hopefully this will bring these rooms up to the level of the main hotel. We had a double room for ourselves and a twin room for the kids. Both rooms were clean and recently refurbished. The rooms were a reasonable size and comfortable. We stayed on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis and found the evening meal menu (waiter service) very good with a choice that we all wanted. The breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice of both hot and cold dishes. We dined in the Balmoral dining room which has been tastefully refurbished. We found all staff to be friendly and helpful. There are plenty of comfortable seating areas to enjoy a drink /coffee/chat/relax etc. However, it should be noted that the alcoholic beverages can be expensive, although this did not unduly put us off and we would return for another visit. |

There was also no fridge in the room which was also disappointing as I was celebrating my 50th birthday and had champagne to chill. The food was very nice althogh not big portions at night but plenty for me although my husband could have eaten more. It was also extremely disappointing that the evening emnu did not change; surely they could alternate 2 four choice menus. I ended up having the same meal on both nights. We were also charged £2.65 for a cup of tea (not even a pot of tea). this is just outragious and it was not a mistake we make on the second night. Wine was also greatly overpriced; my husband is a wine and spirit wholsaler and therefore knows what wine can be bought for. £18-£20 for bog standard wine is daylight robbery. WE don't mind paying 5 star prices if the accomodation is 5 star. Also there was no entertainment on either evening and with prices at the bar so extorsionate, we just ended up going to bed early; a huge disappointment for all the family. There was no improvement in the seimming facilities either. Public areas were nice though. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 7 / 10 FOOD _ 5 / 10 STAYED _ 14 Apr 2009 | Elizabeth Blair said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: Due to the renovations the food was very limited and self-service which we were notified about but my father-in-law only really eats red meat and the first night it was port and the lamb was curried. The selection of food was limited and he ended up not eating anything. He would not allow us to speak to the staff to ask for him to get anything else. Also it would have been nice to get a warm sweet and they were mostly the same desserts each evening. The rooms were lovely although the main hallway smelt very damp which made me cough severely each time but I do appreciate that this is part of the hotel is still to be renovated. Overall the family had a good time and the food that we liked was cooked to a good standard but the renovations did have an impact on our visit. Leisure facilities were great and staff were helpful especially our maid Mary who was so helpful and friendly especially to our 6 year old. We had a good time but our visit was not as good as the last time we were here but that was 12 years ago. We may go back in the future when the work is completed. Creche was excellent. |

The hotel was being refurbished while we were there so some of the decor was very old but I imagine this will all be replaced soon.
The queue when we checked out was over an hour long but overall I felt the £45ppn DB&B was a good deal. Wouldn't have been so happy if I had paid the full price though. |

The suite was dark and shabby paint peeling off the bathroom ceiling and very worn skirting and paper peeling in corridors. I complained and was advised hotel was full that night and we were moved the next afternoon still dissappointed. There was no entertainment of any sort in such a large hotel only one lounge bar which had already been refurbished and was quite pleasant again sadly no entertainment. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was good we were advised an invitation would be issued to us on completion although this was verbal and nothing in writing. Overall a very poor weekend and it did not live up to my expectations in any way. |

Hotel is rightfully being refurbished but there is a lack of child friendly facilities. Crieff Hydro is a much better place.

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 10 / 10 FOOD _ 10 / 10 STAYED _ 15 Feb 2009 | STEPHEN TANNER said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: First impressions were great...lovely building in a lovely setting. The male receptionist was charming and cheery, very well presented. Unfortunately our room was a smoking one and was stale as you'd expect..can't remember if we were given a choice on booking but it isn't what we would have selected. Our room was changed no problem. The leisure centre was clean and something we enjoy. Our only criticism is that there is no direct access from the hotel. The restaurant had character, the staff were perfect and the food was well presented and tasty. Our only criticism was the lighting...rather too much, too bright and, as the restaurant was full, didn't offer any intimacy. Even just dimmed a little would have made a difference. The tealight candle on the table really did nothing..wasn't pretty or serviceable. |

We stayed in the Stirling Wing.We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The food was good and there seemed to be plenty of it. Only issue was that we were charged for a bottle of wine that we didnt have but this was rectified with no problems at reception on check out.All in all I have no major complaints. The hotel is nice and feels very grand. I would recommend it to my friend |

We had a room in the Stirling wing which was really nice and very clean and big enough to contain a 7 foot wide bed. Breakfast was excellent with great variety to choose from. We found the staff to be very pleasant. The meals were lovely though. I just had to write this after all the bad reviews that I read about this hotel and like previous peoples reviews was also thinking of cancelling. So glad I didn't. |

BEDROOMS _ 8 / 10 SERVICE _ 9 / 10 FOOD _ 8 / 10 STAYED _ 28 May 2008 | A guest said the following about Dunblane Hydro Hotel: I'm just glad I booked a three night stay at this hotel prior to looking at the reviews on here. Had I came on here first I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have booked, which would have been a pity as my girlfriend and I enjoyed a lovely stay at the hotel. The setting is beautiful and the weather was great when we went which made the scenery even better.Every member of staff I spoke with was very helpful and polite. The room we stayed in was in the Stirling wing and was spacious, modern, comfortable and housekeeping was excellent. .Breakfast was, as you expect from buffet, plentiful and enjoyable and staff were attentive. At dinner the food was fantastic and, although Ithe portions weren't massive, I'm not sure what some people are looking for from quality food. Granted, there isn't a mountain of chips or potatoes, but I don't think that's unusual at a good restaurant. I have a large appetite and was fully satisfied with the three course menu, although I was disappointed that a number of the dishes, such as the beef, had a supplementary cost.In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel had a nice, relaxed feel to it, the staff were helpful, the grounds were lovely and the food was great. Obviously there are points it could improve on, but my experience differed greatly from the various negative reviews on here and I'm glad I gave the place a chance. |

The hotel is partly refurbished. Ideal setting/base for Perthshire. I would recommend this hotel for anyone with children as they cater for them by offering the Kids Club/Babysitting Service. The only downfall is the Kids outside Play area as it was closed and didn't have a lot of slides etc. |

Everything was very well done including a lovely card from the staff. Reception is all one could wish for, and everything we asked for was provided. If there was one thing we were not entirely happy with it was the lighting in the bedroom, which was too low except for reading in bed, and we have mentioned this to staff who took a note of it. Parking for our car was right below our window (excellent) and we were housed on the 2nd floor (just one small flight of stairs to negotiate if the lift were out of action, important as I am somewhat disabled with arthritis). We were well pleased with our stay at Dunblane Hydro Hotel.
