Directions to Esplanade Hotel in Dunoon

On arrival in Dunoon at Western Ferries turn left out of the ferry terminal to the centre of Dunoon and the main Pier. Continue past the pier and the Rock Cafe, up the hill and first left. Turn left at the foot of the avenue and you will find Esplanade Hotel and its car park

M74 from the South and M8 from the East
Follow signs for Glasgow M8 and Greenock M8
Then A8 through Port Glasgow, Greenock to Gourock

As Dunoon is on the mainland, car owners may prefer to take the High road from Glasgow via loch Lomond and Rest and be Thankful.

Two car ferry services operate, one from Gourock Pier and one from the southern outskirts of Gourock at McInroy’s Point.

There is a railway station at Gourock with a direct passenger link for the twenty-minute ferry crossing to Dunoon.

There are frequent crossings and no advance booking is necessary, although car with passenger tickets may be purchased from the Esplanade when making a hotel reservation.

This hotel is not wheelchair friendly as there are stairs to get to dining room, entertainment etc.

Quadmania Scotland - Based in the Argyll Forest Park just outside Dunoon, Quadmania specialises in quad biking and adventure trekking over farmland, forests and mountains.

Play Golf at Cowal Golf Club - On Ardenslate Road in Kirn, Dunoon. Great and challenging 18-hole course for beginners and experienced players with stunning views.

Puck’s Glenn walk - If you want to wash the city from your hair there is no better place than Pucks Glen..both metaphorically and literally. A winding steep-sided gorge, wild northern European rain forest and waterfalls along its length

A trip on the Paddle Steamer Waverley - Sail on the last sea-going Paddle Steamer in the world, the Waverley with a variety of trips from Dunoon Pier ranging as far as a trip to Arran or through the famous Kyles of Bute. 

Coastal fishing - DC Marine runs "The Morag" which can accommodate 10 passengers. Trips of over one hour include the opportunity to try your hand at fishing for Mackerel, Pollock, Saithe, Cod and Codling. All the necessary fishing gear is carried on board. Enthusiastic anglers can charter the boat purely for fishing expeditions and visit the best fishing grounds in the area.

Bowling Greens - Bowling Greens are available at the local Bowling Club in Kirn by Dunoon on Ardenslate Road, and Innellan.

The Cowal Way is a 57-mile walkway from Portavadie on Loch Fyne to Inveruglas on Loch Lomond and is ideal for walking and cycling.
