Enjoyed a lovely weekend in Wetheral at the Crown Hotel. we were allocated an upgraded room on arrival and that set the tone for the weekend. We could not fault the hotel, catering or lesure staff everyone was great. Meals were excellent with a good choice of menu. No complaints. Lovely room, and glad to be on the south side. Everything clean and well appointed. Bed had no top sheet - not sure if that was meant to be; but I was a bit embarrassed to be next to douvet when other guests would later be, as well. Radio came on at 8 am of its own accord - maybe previous occupant had set it (no problem to me because I was awake, due to jet lag, anyway). Radio reception was a bit iffy; but those clock radios are not brilliant. Nice to have access to a bath. Hotel staff obliging.

Nice hotel, helpful and friendly staff. The rooms in the main building are lovely and well-equipped, but the block of new rooms at the back of the hotel is a little soulless, and can be noisy when there are functions on. Car parking also a problem when functions are on.

You get a slightly different view of the hotel to that advertised on their website - the car park at the rear was packed and the spaces were extra small. It could do with a little spruce up too! The service from the moment we entered the hotel was undoubtedly excellent. Our room was on the small side and was decorated to a reasonable standard. It was also well equipped with the standards: iron and board, hairdryer, tea&coffee facilities and trouser press. Our bathroom was a little cramped and desperately needed refurbishing - particularly the shower head which was fixed to the tiles. There was also a fan situated on the flat roof outside our room window which sparodically came on and off 24/7. Also, slightly more annoying was the rhythmical knocking sound which came on and off and appeared to be coming from one corner of our room. We are quite heavy sleepers but this annoyed us during our 1st night. If we hadn't been visiting a relative we would have changed rooms. The evening meal in the restaurant was very enjoyable. The food was delicious and the menu suited all tastes - if a little over-priced. The service was a little on the slow side considering how empty the restaurant was (but we weren't sure whether a function was going on.) The breakfast was great and we both enjoyed the food and the choice on the menu.

On arrival at the hotel, we were disappointed to learn that our bedroom was on the 2nd floor. This was despite the fact that I had requested a ground floor room as my mobility is not so good. I had a print-out of my confirmation with me, but sadly the hotel had not had any notification from you that this was a specific requirement!! They managed to find us a room on the lst floor for the first night, and a ground floor room for the second night. Staff throughout were very helpful and kind, but I think that any special requests when booking should be passed on to them by you. I believe that they also plan to take this matter up with you. If I had been a wheelchair user, I would have been unable to stay there, as it was, I managed the stairs, albeit slowly and with difficulty. This was NOT how we planned to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary! I must stress again, that all staff were helpful and kind.

We were lead names for a group booking of up to 14 adults. Generally, I can't fault the staff, the food or the facilities at the hotel. Minor quibbles with housekeeping - our apartment had problems with one or more light bulbs not working in most spaces but was ideal for the gathering prior to dinner. Friends in the old part of the hotel reported frustrations with poor shower pressure and controls, and rooms without the heating turned on prior to arrival. But everyone enjoyed their stay and some were talking of coming back with family (no children in this party).

The hotel is of a good standard but -it is a pity the bathrooms have not been upgraded to have walk in showers; the executive room we had was large and comfortable but unfortunately there was a squash court next door which was in use twice in our stay; a fridge in an exec room would have been expected but was not installed. Our large double bed was in fact two twins pushed together and the bedding was stretched to the limit by its size, a pair of twins with two matresses is not a double in my book. It was good to be able to easily access the leisure centre dressed in swim wear and the dressing gowns provided.

It was amazing just what we needed the lesuire facilities are a fantasic 12m pool, jacuzzi, uni sex steam room and single sex saunas in the changing rooms. We stayed in the cottage which was fabulous it had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, livingroom with dining area and a kitchen. Room service was reasonable and very tasty. Were already planning our next visit 10/10

The food was excellent in the restaurant, one of the nicest meals I have eaten in a hotel for some time. Leisure centre was better equipped than most hotel gyms.

We stayed for one night at the Crown Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. I stayed with my sister, mother and Grandmother, for her 85th Birthday. We arrived early and were checked in without a problem. We had lunch in the bar of the hotel, which was very pleasant, just like a local pub, food and service great. Then went to the leisure club where we all had pampering treatment from the beautician Rachel who was very helpful and gave my 85-year-old grand mother her very first manicure. We then relaxed by the very clean pool with coffees. The evening meal in the conservatory restaurant was lovely, plentiful and a good price. Would definitely stay again.

Amazing this hotel does not mention one of its finest attributes - the fact that it is only 100 yards from the railway station in Wetheral. We arrived by train and it seems that hardly anybody ever does but it was very convenient. Good place to stay overnight with excellent lesiure centre. A good thing to do, however you arrive, is to go down to the station and walk over the footbridge across the river Eden to the Corby Bridge Inn on the other side, less than 10 minutes walk away. Oh, the breakfast was good too.

Very easy to get to from the M6 and there were various signposts around. However, set back off main road at village and it just needed that last sign at the junction . Wetheral railway station at bottom of road but far enough away to generally not hear them. It is about 5 miles from Carlisle and about 20 miutes from Scotland, good place to reach all local historical sites. Food excellent but would have been more tempted to eat there if price had been lower in the main restaurant, we ate in Waltons Bar, good price good selection and tasty. Room and bedding all clean. Staff very oblibimg, nice and friendly. Would definitely go again.

lovely hotel . lovely spa facilitys would definantly recommend anyone going .. was great to have a luxury bedroom with 4 poster and extras. as only paid very little for a basic room

This is a traditional hotel with a modern wing for conference and leisure facilities.All the staff were very friendly and helpful, clearly enjoying their jobs.We were upgraded to a "four poster" bedroom which was comfortable and peaceful. The hotel is quite near to a railway line, but shielded by an embankment so noise was not a problem.The restaurant is quite modern with a timber ceiling and picture windows which look over the delightful gardens. The food was very good quality and well presented. Wetheral is an attractive, quite "upmarket" village and the hotel is a very comfortable place to stay.
